The After School Math ClubWelcome back to another exciting year! It is time for Math Club to begin again, and I know that many students are already ready to get started.
Last year, we were able to complete some activities, take some trips, and participate in character building. This year, I hope that we will have another great group that will be also be willing to enter into the math and science fair towards the end of the school year. Let's showcase what Carnahan students are capable of. Also, there will be some prerequisites to adhere to before joining math club. Here are a few: 1. Need to like math. This is an extracurricular activity and will definitely include math. 2. Need to have a desire to be good at math. This year I plan to include some activities, but they will include upper-level math skills. In order to participate in the activity, students will need to be able to use previously learned concepts or catch on to new concepts. 3. Need to have the time to participate in the math club. The math club desires at least two meetings a month. If students can not attend at least 80% of the meetings, they will not be able to participate in all of the math club activities, i.e. field trips. If you meet all three objectives, then you are a perfect candidate for the Math Club. Come and join us! |
Interested? If you think that you would be a good participant in Math Club, please contact Ms. Presley, by email ([email protected]), or by submitting your contact information below. Please include why you want to be apart of the Math Club, and the highest level math class that you have taken or are currently taking.

On the horizon
The math club is preparing to host a middle school math competition, which shall be operated by the members of the math club. Students will be in charge of the main event, with Ms. Presley the sponsor, acting as an overseer/resource for the students. It is exciting for them and for me, because they will be able to develop important skills, such as public speaking, organizing, collaborating, delegating, and leadership just to name a few. Hopefully, this will be one event that will grow in time to reach more than one middle school, and we will be able to say that it started at Carnahan High School of the Future; and the math club will truly be known for reaching out to the future.
Also, we will be expecting a visit from an UMSL representative, who will come and talk to the members about college readiness and the importance of what they do everyday in high school. Students will also get a chance to visit the University of Missouri - Saint Louis, for a college tour, and another set of informative presentations that will help them prepare for their post-secondary education.
